The painting portrays my father. I wanted to create a scene that evoked silence, reflection, frugality, poverty, humility, dignity. Some of the things my father passed on to me were important. In the evening, when we are alone with ourselves, truth sits at the table with us, and tells us who we are, who we have been, what we have done or not done, for ourselves, for our evolution, for our neighbour, for the community, for the world. The light, it reveals all things, purity is illuminated, lies crushed. the characters in my paintings must be in close connection with the scene and with what I want to say, there must be truth.
