Meteora Monastery

I painted this scene from a photo I took in Meteora, Greece, where my husband and I visited three of the monasteries built high upon large rock formations. The sheer rock faces take one's breath away, and the fortitude of the monks who have lived there is awe-inspiring. In the ever-changing landscape around them, their refuge on the rock remains constant. I tried to depict this idea of the ephemeral versus the sense of permanence and strength exhibited by the rock.
