Daydream
Daydream was painted in my studio from photos I took while visiting Balboa Island in California. The back of the Daydream prominently displaying the American flag is what caught my attention. Her reflections throughout the water secondary. I simplified and softened the background by taking out buildings and replacing them with trees and some billowy clouds. I also chose to take out several people on the vessel to make is more about a solo sailors journey. Next I mix puddles of each color in 3-5 values then apply a thin block in layer for the main shapes in the composition. Finishing with palette knife texture and crisp edges to draw the viewer to the focal area. I work to create a sense of playful movement throughout in my paintings in hopes to transport the viewer into the scene.
