On Hastings Beach

I started this as a plein air painting on the beach at historic Hastings, on the south coast of England, in October 2024, and finished it in my studio shortly thereafter. I like to go out plein air painting with a couple groups, and this was a day trip to sketch and paint on the beach. I was attracted to the textures in the paint and wood on this beautiful old fishing boat. Anything that that interesting textures draws me in: rocks, mature trees, and old wooden doors are typical subjects for me. I finished the painting in
