Dawn on the Island

I got out long before dawn, expecting light to hit the sky shortly before 6. It was barely 5:15 when the air began to glow orange, and the landscape took on brilliance and deep, rich colors. I painted quickly, and as I was finishing, realized that it was my mother's birthday. She'd have been 98, had she still been alive. I feel she sent me this dawn and this painting.
