Golden Hour

Painted from a still life setup in my studio, I arranged a couple of bunches of sunflowers and used both natural and directed light to create chiaroscuro. I loved pairing the intense yellows and golds against a richer background and placing the flowers in a favorite bronze vessel. I did not want a typical flower painting where each bloom is rendered in detail but rather suggestions of shapes and forms and lots of lost and found edges. I was after a feeling of movement (of the flowers) through the light and dark areas of the painting.
