The Heirloom

Painted from life, I saw heirloom tomatoes for sale at the market and could not resist. The "heirloom" became my reason for this painting. I added mums, spring and cippolini onions, and garlic. And, relied mostly on natural light. I wanted to capture an old fashioned atmosphere with the soft light in the background and the loosely painted mums. But, chose to paint the foreground vegetables (especially the heirloom tomato) with more detail.
