This painting has a special symbolic place in my heart. After the fires in Lahaina on Maui, where I lost two thirds of my artworks (the main gallery that represented me —Bill Wyland Gallery— was located in Lahaina and burned to the ground, along with all other galleries, and the rest of the city), I stumbled upon one of the pictures I had taken on one of my trips around Maui, and saw a parallel between what had happened and the rugged resilience of that bright and colorful little flower, still standing strong, indeed drawing its actual resilience from the very rain and storm it had just gone through.
This became an obvious symbol I had to depict.
Oil on canvas board.
